Full Description
During (or possibly before) the First World War the Royal Navy constructed an airfield at Hawkhill Down. The site was heavily re-used during the Second World War and it is possible that some of the surviving structures are of First World War date.(1)
RNAS Walmer, an out-station of RNAS Dover was located on Hawkshill Downs, but was abandoned by 1919 and nothing now survives at the site which is marked by a memorial to lost pilots erected shortly after the war. (2)
